I heard about this scientist. He said to God. “We no longer need you. We can clone people, do heart transplants, and do many miraculous things.” God said, “That’s fine. But to prove you don’t need me, let’s say we have a man-making contest. The only rule is you have to make man out of dirt.” The scientist said, “Alright” and bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt. God looked at him and said, “No, no, no. You go get your own dirt!”
As I write this, the past Sunday was Mother’s Day. It is a great day to celebrate our Mother and the Motherly figures in our life. God designed the family to operate on a system of a good father and mother. When this happens in the family, the kids will do much better because this is how it was designed.
Did you know that we all have a heavenly mother? No I’m not talking about Mary the mother of Jesus. I’m not talking about someone who prays for you or anything like that. I’m talking about Mother Sarah. In Galatians 4 we read about how Abraham’s wife is the mother of us all because she represents the new covenant today. Hagar, Abraham’s servant, is the mother of the law. Abraham was promised a son, and when he could not have a child he slept with Hagar and had a child with her. This was not what God wanted, and God called what Abraham did with Hagar a representation of works. When try to earn God’s love and favor, we are making Hagar our mother.
Later by faith, Abraham and Sarah had a child by grace. Galatians 4:26-28 reads, “but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 27 For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren, You who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband.” 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.”

Today as believers in Christ we are children of the promise. The promise is fulfilled through the finished work of the cross. Mount Sinai is the mountain where Moses was given the Ten Commandments. This was given with thunder and drove fear into the Israelites. This was important in history because the law brings us to the end of ourselves. Through the law we realize that we need Jesus desperately.
Maybe you are faced with a difficult situation: you are trying to get a new job, you’re not sure how to pay your bills, or you have just been diagnosed with an illness. Take time to remember that you are under a new covenant today. This covenant is not based upon works, it is based upon the unmerited favor of God. Freely receive your blessing from the Lord. Believe that God will provide you with a good job not because of your efforts. Believe that God will provide because of his grace. Follow the Lord’s direction. Believe that He is even now lining up the perfect job for you. This is how we make Zion our new mountain and Sarah our Spiritual Mother.
Zion is the city of David. It is our new mountain today. This is the place where we can freely receive grace from the Lord. Our heavenly mother is Sarah. She represents the grace of God. When Abraham could not have a son, God renewed the womb of Sarah. If you are a Woman, take time to think about the life of Sarah in the Bible. Pray and believe that God is even now renewing your youth. If you were diagnosed with a disease, do not let fear take place in your heart. You are an heir of Sarah. Just as God renewed her youth, He can do the same for you. God has created you for a purpose. Begin to walk by grace and not works.
Amen Pastor Caleb! Thanks for this reminder!
