The Presence of God

What Is the Key to a Successful Life?

Why was Joseph a successful man? Because, “The Lord was with Joseph” Now this was not just a spiritual success even Potiphar, his master, noticed. The Bible explains, “Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and how the Lord caused all that he did to prosper in his hand…and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge.” (Genesis 39:3-4).

What is the key to a successful life? The Bible talks about many people who lived a life of success. The story of Joseph paints an amazing picture of what a successful person looks like.

Joseph was favored by his father more than his brothers. His brothers became jealous, threw him into a pit, and sold him into slavery. These traders sold him to Potiphar in Egypt. Now as a slave who is in a faraway land and owns nothing to his name, God calls this man a success. Genesis 39:1-2 tells us, “The Lord was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.”

Later Joseph was falsely accused by Potiphar’s jealous wife and thrown into prison. Could it get any worse? Yet despite this, God was with Joseph through it all. He later got out of the prison and was made second in command over all of Egypt.

The Bible shows us that whenever God is with someone, they will be successful. When God was with the Nation of Israel in battle, they were never defeated in any military campaign. We can also read of the story of Samson who was a one-man army. He protected his people from their enemies and with the jawbone of a donkey he killed, “…a thousand men.” (Judges 15:16). Why was he a success? Because the Lord was with Him.

God is with us. The entire story of Christmas is about Christ wanting to be with us. Christ was born, lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and was raised to life on the third day. After He was raised again, He told His disciples, “…I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” God wants you to know that He is always with you. He will never leave you and never forsake you! No matter what happens in our life, because God is with us, we are a success.
