A Godly lesson from a Japanese Tradition – Kintsugi

Hannah Brencher shared a great illustration in her book, “Fighting Forward”. She said, “Kintsugi is a Japanese term that means ‘join with gold’ or ‘golden seams.’

If you were to break a jar and wanted to put it back together using the method of kintsugi, someone would take the jar and piece it back together with a glue that is mixed with powdered gold or platinum. It wouldn’t be like superglue, where the item looks perfect because the glue is clear. You would see the gold in all the cracks.

You would know that the object has breaks in it. Those who practice kintsugi believe that just because something breaks doesn’t mean it cannot be used anymore. It’s not about perfection; it’s about resilience. The once broken thing becomes more valuable because now there is gold binding the pieces together.”

In life we must be resilient. What God has started in our hearts He will finish. Perhaps your on a plan to lose weight, you must be consistent. There is no get rich quick scheme here, the way to be free is to trust in God.

James King, a manager at H-EB shared a great illustration about our freedom in Christ. He said, “Our chains are no longer attached to our arms, but we still have to let go of them. God sets everyone free from sin, but only the one’s who let go of the chains walk free.” What a great truth! It is the truth that sets us free, and it is believing in the truth causes us to walk free.

Trust in the Lord with your heart. When you have a problem give it to God. Take time daily to pray to Him. Just as we need water daily, we daily need an encounter with God even more. We need to seek the Lord.
