Professional Golfer Andy Roddick once said, “At one point in life you either have the thing you want or the reasons why you don’t” We all have a story, and there are pages still to be written. You hold the pen in your hand, and you can change how your story is told. It’s time to begin to change the story of your life for the better.
Go with God. When the Lord was calling Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into their Promised Land. Moses told the Lord, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15). Have to ever had plans to go somewhere but your friend was not invited. You may have the attitude that if they can’t go, then I won’t either. Moses was telling God that he did not want to go anywhere without the leading of the Lord. In spite of Moses’ fears and struggles, He was a success because God was with him. The path of your friends will influence your path.
One day my Uncle Ralph was working for the Police Department and got a call about a teenager who got stuck in a child’s swing. As he shook his head and explained the situation to his wife, he left headed towards the scene. Firetrucks and Police officers were all around the area. Ralph walked closer and began to discuss the situation, they told him that the kid is losing circulation to his legs and needed a tool to cut him loose. As Ralph walked closer, he began to recognize the teenager. He picked up the phone to call his wife. “You’ll never believe who the kid is, it’s our grandson, Austin!” When I hear this story, I can stop Every time I hear that story about my cousin Austin, I sit back, laugh, and think, “I can see Austin doing that!” In a similar way, the more we know God, the more we will know His will. Get to know God’s heart. Look at the way He moved through the life of Jesus and see His true nature. When you know God’s heart, you will know God’s will.
Many chapters of our story cannot be changed such as, where we grew up, the people we live around, and even the politics around us. There are many things we can directly control and write. John C. Maxwell once wrote, “The difference between average people and achieving people is there perception of and response to failure.”If we allow negative moments in our life to write our story, we will fail backward. When we begin to change our attitudes and actions, we will fail forward.
If we had looked at the life of Moses when he was in the wilderness as a shepherd, we may have thought that his life was a failure. He had left a royal family, murdered a man for being cruel to a slave, and spent forty years in a wilderness. Yet as we keep reading, God used him to lead an entire nation out of slavery on dry ground through a sea of water! I believe that God has great plans for your life! Go with God and know His heart. Your story is not over!
