“In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you.” (Isaiah 54:14). So why is righteousness important to know? This passage speaks about how God wants us to be established in this knowledge of righteousness. God doesn’t want us to just simply know about this, He wants us to be established in this new covenant truth.
E. W. Kenyon once said, “Righteousness means the ability to stand in the presence of the Father God without the sense of guilt or inferiority.” Knowing your identity in Christ is crucial because it effects our relationship with God. Your prayer life is directly effected because of this. The more you are aware that you are righteous in Christ, the more you will pray.
There is something about standing that is important. When Paul talked about the armor of God he talked about the need to stand firm. In righteousness we have been established. It is this simple truth of knowing you are right with God which will change your life.
Paul wrote, “Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” (Galatians 3:6). Now when did Abraham become righteous? Immediately, he believed and God gave him righteousness. This word for reckoned is an accounting term. This means that God credited righteousness to our bank account. Righteousness is there for anyone; all they have to do is receive it. How was Abraham blessed? He was blessed by the Lord. Abraham was not blessed because of his works. As we read, “Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.” (Genesis 24:1). Do you want to be blessed in all things? Then receive this free gift of righteousness.
According to the website, Got Questions, “A typical armed soldier wore a breastplate made of bronze or chain mail. It covered the vital organs, namely, the heart, and was fitted with loops or buckles that attached it to a thick belt. If the belt was loosened, the breastplate slipped right off.” The breastplate of righteousness guards one of the most important parts of our body, our heart. God wants us to protect our heart. How do we do this? By having peace knowing we are righteous in Christ.
Isn’t it interesting that a thick belt used to be attached to this breastplate. It is the belt of truth that keeps our breastplate of righteousness on. There is power in knowing truth. The more you are around Jesus the more you are around truth because Jesus is, “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).
