Give Thanks and Be Anxious for Nothing

Philippians 4:6 tells us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Isn’t it interesting how we can be anxious for so many things. Yet God wants us to worry about nothing. Why? Because we are thankful that God hears our prayers. There is a connection between prayer and thanksgiving. When we are praising God for what he has done, we are in essence praying. People think that prayer is something hard to do. Instead it is simply communicating with God. When you don’t know what to pray, thank God for three things. Thank Him for what He’s done, what He’s doing, and what He will do. When we appreciate God, there is a peace that fills our hearts. We feel better.

The world wants us to be worried about everything. It predicts the worst possible outcome. While we cannot ignore real problems, we can choose to not dwell on them. Being thankful doesn’t have to be limited to our circumstances, we can be thankful continuously. When God told the nation of Israel to march around the wall of Jericho, He wanted to show them a truth. The truth that, many times, praise precedes the victory. He told them to march around the walls six times silent, and on the seventh march to shout. As they shouted, “the wall fell down flat.” (Joshua 6:20).  If your facing a difficulty, don’t dwell in anxiety. Go to God with gratitude and prayer. Be anxious for nothing. Instead prevail like the Israelites and give a shout of praise. Watch God move and give you peace over your life.
